Samsung Electronics has decided to up the Gear for its Gear 2 apps and as a result of it, the company has announced a “Gear App Challenge” in-order to focus on the wearable app market. Interested developers can register their apps developed with a Tizen SDK from May 8. The total prizes for the challenge amounts to $1.25 million which includes a $10,000 worth cash prize for the first winner.
President of Samsung Electronics Media Solution Center, Won-Pyo Hong said “Samsung will continue to play its part in the wearable market through offering a wide array of outstanding SDKs to app developers.” Both the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo are powered with the Tizen OS and this contest will certainly pour-in more number of applications to the smartwatch’s app store.
The challenge will be conducted in several developer events in different countries of South Korea, Malaysia, USA, Russia, Brazil and Singapore. Moreover, taking its smartwatch concept more seriously, Samsung is going to host several events like Samsung Gear Hackathon and developer Day so that developers can get a better insight into the SDK for Gear 2.
