Just before a day the MWC has to begin, Samsung has gone official declaring the second version of the Galaxy Gear along with a Neo edition for the same. But now Samsung has refrained itself from keeping the Galaxy brand and now the two smartwatches are called as Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo.
Both the smartwatches are sporting a 1.63-inch screen with 320×320 OLED resolution, similar to the Galaxy Gear and the chipset is now much speedy with a dual-core 1.2GHz components. The RAM is 512MB and the storage is 4GB. The battery life is a bit shrinked to 300mAh and few on-board sensor like heart rate monitor and pedometer are also included.
The camera specifications have remained the same for the Gear 2 whereas the Gear 2 Neo has skipped the camera mounting. The camera position has been now from the strap to the body itself (above, left image). The Gear 2 is just 68g in weight and the Gear 2 Neo is 55g in weight.
Black, brown, and orange color options will be available for the Gear 2, while the Gear 2 Neo comes in black, gray, and orange, instead. Both varieties have IP67 dust and water protection. Samsung says that worldwide sales should begin in April; no word yet on pricing.
